BCDS is actively taking proposals for TDs and venues for the 2021/2022 Duck Golf season.

Basic guidelines for these events are as follows:
  1. TD must be certified and have experience running PDGA events.
  2. TD must be able to demonstrate a firm plan to manage the potential full capacity of the event.
  3. TD must have a firm plan on the venue and the venue’s acknowledgment of the planned event: either a 18 or 36 hole format and facilities on site, such as washrooms and parking.
  4. TD must been able to accommodate 72 players or 144, no in-between (a maximum of 4 players per hole for either an 18 or 36 hole layout).
  5. TD must show a developed course of 18 or 36 holes; 20 hole layouts will not be considered.
  6. TD must follow the BCDS allocation table of spots for all age protected and Ladies divisions, numbers will depend on the format of the event.
  7. Duck golf events normally take place on the first weekend of the month, running October to March with the finals to be held in April. We ask all proposals to include the TD’s top three date choices.
  8. Finals will be a 2 day event, so if you are looking to host the finals, please format your proposal to a 2 day event with 3 rounds and a closing ceremony.

Please send your proposals to bcdstournamentcoordinator@gmail.com

BCDS thanks you all in advance for your support, and we look forward to working together to grow the sport and the series.

Note: BCDS holds the AGM at the first Duck Golf of the season so please be aware whoever ends up with that date you will need to accommodate a 1.5 hour lunch.

BCDS Return to Play: Phase 3 - July 2021

6/7/2021

On June 30,2021 the BC Government updated Provincial Health Orders regarding COVID-19 and the return to sport plans that apply to our sport. We are currently in Phase Three of the Provincial Guidelines, which allows us to return to competition with minimal restrictions as described in the Phase Three Guideline.
  • This plan covers organized sport sanctioned by the BCDS and implemented by clubs and tournament directors.
  • Informal play continues to fall under provincial guidelines enforced at the municipal level.
  • Member clubs and Tournament Directors (TDs) are responsible for ensuring all guidelines are enforced.

This document will be continuously reviewed in conjunction with mandates from the Provincial Health Authority and the phase appropriate edition of viaSport’s Return to Sport Guidelines.

COVID-19 Update

24/3/2021

Good Day BC Discgolfers

On March 18th, our BC Government updated Provincial Health Orders regarding COVID-19 and the restrictions that apply to our sport. Under the current restrictions, we can have up to 10 people come together to play an outdoor sport.

For now, and till such time as the PHO, VIA SPORTS and the BCDS advises, the current regulations apply to all BC Discgolf players.

Note that under the current PHO:
  • There is to be no organized sport, Club events or Tournaments
  • Individuals can only travel to their home club for casual rounds
  • Individuals must maintain physical distancing of 3m while participating
  • Individuals must play in groups of 4 per card and 10-foot gimmies (to avoid contact with the baskets as much as possible)

The BCDS is working to develop a dynamic schedule to be announced soon; this will include events that we plan on hosting as soon as the PHO is amended and we are back to Phase 3 (Return to Sports) within BC. I am in contact with VIA Sports, and they are continuing to work with government to develop the next phase of return to sport because there are no current plans to return to phase three in the near future. While we recognize that some events/dates may have to be cancelled due to the circumstances, we want to provide some light at the end of the “rainbow” for BC Players, so please stay tuned for announcements from the BCDS.

As we wait for a return to normalcy, I would like to continue to encourage all BC players to embrace and mentor all new players that COVID-19 has brought to the sport. We are an amazing group of diverse Discgolfers, and if we all take a moment and introduce ourselves, club(s) and the BCDS to these new players, it will ensure that they are aware of the basic rules of Discgolf, current COVID regulations and course etiquette, allowing us to nurture and grow the sport through these difficult times.

Many Thanks,
Tara Lynch
BCDS President

COVID-19 New Health Orders

23/11/2020

Good day fellow BC Disc golfers,

As we navigate these challenging times it is imperative that we all abide by our Provincial Health Orders and the BCDS Return to Sport plan to ensure that we stay safe and our sport can be played.

We want all BC players to know that the board is committed to keeping all our players safe with our Return to Sport plan. In order to do this, we need each one of you to stay up to date with the daily updates from the provincial and local entities on the restrictions, as these are dynamic and changing daily.

The BCDS strongly encourages all BC players to only play at their local (i.e. home) course within their local community, while adhering to all COVID-19 protocols and provincial health orders.

Please do not travel to other courses for friendly or league rounds.

Examples:
  • Vancouver players should not travel to North Van or Burnaby
  • Victoria Players should not travel to Nanaimo or Campbell River
  • Langley players should not travel to Mission or Mundy.

While measures to this extent may not be included in the existing health orders, we need to set a good example and do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The BCDS realizes this this is not a part of the order, but it is what we all need to do to keep Disc golf courses open for play.

Please take a moment to review the full order and reach out to your local City, Township, Parks Board for direction on how this affects your local park/clubs.

,The current Provincial Health Order issued on 11/19/202 states the following regarding outdoor sports:

Sports games, competitions and practices
Games, competitions, and practices can continue with no spectators and no travel.
We are in via Sport’s Return to Sport Phase 3 with the exception of no spectators and no travel.
https://www.viasport.ca/return-sport

Spectators
No spectators are allowed at any sport activities under the order. The only people allowed to attend sport activities are those that provide care to a participant or player. For example, providing first aid.

Travel for athletic activities
Travel to, from, and between communities for athletic activities like games, competitions, training, and practice is prohibited under this order.
For example:
  • A team from Abbotsford cannot attend a training session in Chilliwack
  • A team from Victoria cannot attend a practice in Richmond

The BCDS has ratified its safety plan and posted it here.

Stay tuned for developments and updates; the leadership team will revisit the guidelines and provincial orders at the end of July and have an announcement 2 days after our next board meeting July 27th. We'll update you if there's anything major announced in the meantime as well.

Notable is that in-club organized play may resume with the caveats that participants are club members who live in the communities play is taking place, and all rules outlined in the safety plan are followed. Please familiarize yourself with what's to be expected.

Competition update

Thanks to the BCDS membership for your care and respect for each other and the communities we're fortunate to have disc golf courses in. The restraint shown putting club events, let alone tournaments, on hold is really appreciated and noted.

Please be confident the BCDS leadership team continues to monitor updates and changes to Provincial Health Officer's rules daily.

The BCDS leadership team has been working through safety planning for the resumption of insured competition in the province; a draft plan was presented at the June 29 meeting and is scheduled to be ratified at a special meeting July 6.

You'll find the proposed safety plan in the minutes - please have a look through, let us know your thoughts, and if you have any questions, please ask.

At this time, organized competition encouraging travel outside our communities remains against the recommendations of the Provincial Health Officer and ultimately the law. With the ratification of our safety plan, in-club organized play may resume with the caveats that participants are club members who live in the communities play is taking place, and all rules outlined in the safety plan are followed. Please familiarize yourself with what's to be expected.

Until Dr. Bonnie Henry gives the green light, there will be no BCDS or PDGA sanctioning of events. We all appreciate members' patience with this, and know we're optimistic because changes are happening rapidly in the policies affecting organized sports in the Province.

More to come next week. Thanks everyone!
